It’s the unofficial start of the summer, and the weather is finally nice. With the snow in the recent past, I’m excited about summer! I live for the days of warm weather, daylight saving time, and open toe shoes. What I love about the summer is sitting on my deck sipping a glass of wine and reading a book, skimming through the pages of Essence magazine, visiting the local farmer’s market, shopping for fresh blooms, trips to Baltimore Harbor, lying on the beach, walking barefoot through my front lawn and dining outdoors.

Nine Things To Kick Off The Unofficial Start Of The Summer:
Change The Decor In Your Home

One of the easiest ways to give your home a mini makeover is to change the accessories. Home accents are the perfect inexpensive way to give your home that seasonal feel. Just as we change our wardrobe according to the seasons… why not our home? What better time to do it? It’s summer, so why not give your home that warm, bright and sunny feeling. As the flowers begin to bloom and the air gets warm bring a little of the outdoors indoors. Add pillows in the colors of teal, orange, whites and yellows to your living room. Change your magazine rack, buy  new lamp shades, add a new piece of art or a colorful throw to the sofa. The possibilities are endless.

Take A Walking Photography Class

Explore outdoors take in all that your city has to offer. While you’re enjoying the moment- why not commemorate it? Create memories to last well after the days of summer are gone. Check Living Social for classes in your area.

Get A Manicure & Pedicure
At this week’s appointment nix the dark hues of winter and transition into summer with pretty pinks, pastels, minty green, bright yellow or vibrant reds. It’s sure to make you feel  warm on the inside and bright on the outside.

Buy Yourself Flowers
I don’t know about you, but during the winter months I don’t buy flowers much. In my local market, the pickings are slim or with the cold weather and snow outside flowers are usually the last thing on my mind. This weekend, take a trip to your local farmer’s market or florist and treat yourself to a bunch of the prettiest blooms in the store. Some of my favorites are tulips, gerber daisies, lilies and sunflowers.

Go For A Walk
The air outside is warm. Appreciate the little things. Take a walk inhale and exhale the fresh air. Admire the flowers as they bloom, inhale the scents of fresh cut grass, BBQ in the air and listen to sounds of children playing. Enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of summer.

Wine Tasting
Attend a local wine tasting event. Or, host your own, try a wine club as Lot 18, it’s free and you get access to top quality wine at an affordable price. To take it up a notch, attend a wine tasting on a Yacht. In Philadelphia, Pinot Boutique offers a ‘Sunset Wine Cruise.’ “Included in each cruise is a one hour wine class with guided tasting and one hour free time to enjoy the beautiful sunset and Philadelphia skyline!” Need help finding a similar event in your area check out LocalWineEvents.Com. Go Bike Riding
Find out which parks in your area have bike paths. Gather up the girls, hubby or the entire family and head out on a biking adventure. It’s sure to be an outstanding time. Might I add, the calories you will burn. Don’t fret, not sure which park in your area has as trail. No problem head on over to the National Park Service’s website and search bike trails. Let the good times roll!

Dine Outdoors
There is nothing that says spring like dining AL FRESCO! Grab your girls, or go stag and hit your favorite restaurant that offers outdoor seating. Bon Appetite!

Have A Picnic
Warm weather, flowers in full bloom, fresh cut grass and great food. Nothing says summer like a picnic. It’s one of summer’s easiest and most fun past times. Lying out in the sun sipping a glass of chilled wine. It’s like a sweet indulgence a  time for family, friends or romance. Whether it’s a picnic on your front lawn or the park its a totally hip thing to do.
